In Cox’s Bazar, over one million Rohingya refugees live in the world’s largest refugee camp, carrying heavy physical and mental burdens. On top of the daily stressors in the camps and painful reminders of the difficult journey that led them to Bangladesh, Rohingya people are at high risk for re-traumatization as the international community prepares to seek accountability for the crimes of August 2017. FIVDB’s mental health program in Cox’s Bazar takes into account psychological trauma, attempts to de-stigmatize services, develop community peer counselors, refer to advanced levels of care, and mitigate and prevent re-traumatization.

FIVDB’s cadre of community facilitators from the Cox’s Bazar region have been trained as peer counselors to give psychological first aid and refer individuals to specialized care. Individuals in our working area can receive counseling from our clinical psychologist or access comprehensive legal, case management and other services from partner organizations.
